2022 GABF Winner; Bronze Medal for Hazy Strong Pale Ale: At some point early last decade, the hops from the southern hemisphere and New Zealand in particular started creeping into craft beers and homebrew supply shops across America, and a quiet, green revolution (not the kind we need, but definitely one that we wanted nonetheless!) was underway. By the metrics, these hops were loaded with essential oils and alpha acids, but at the end of the day it’s always about flavor and aroma, and these kiwi hops were stacked! Hop developers were coaxing out floral and citrus notes that North American craft brewers already had a taste for, and prized tropical fruit notes that our pallets were all taking a collective turn towards at that time. This was something truly something new in craft beer – an industry and culture that is obsessed with newness, novelty, and experimentation. Fast forward to today, when hops growers and developers have been working tirelessly to meet the demand for that new green. Now we can offer beers like Green New Zeal which are exclusively dry-hopped with New Zealand varietals that deliver those citrus, floral and tropical notes we’ve come to love.
